Questions
An gcuirtear isteach ar an gcéad teanga nuair a thosaítear ar theanga eile a fhoghlaim?
Ní chuirtear, leathnaítear ar an gcumas iomlán teanga. Níl aon bhaol ann go ndéanfaí dochar do chéad teanga an pháiste ach an oiread, ó thaithí na naíonraí anseo in Éirinn agus a gcomhleithéidí i dtíortha eile, níl aon bhaol ann go n-éireoidh an páiste measctha, ní bhíonn deacracht acu an dá theanga a dheighilt óna chéile.
Is the first language affected when starting to learn another language?
The overall language ability is not added, it is expanded. There is no risk of harming the child's first language either, from the experience of the children here in Ireland and their peers in other countries, there is no risk of the child becoming mixed, they do not have difficulty using both languages separation from each other.
An mbeidh tionchar ag an tumoideachas ar chumas Béarla mo pháiste?
Bíonn tionchar dearfach ag an tumoideachas trí mheán na Gaeilge ar líofacht na na ndaltaí sa Bhéarla. Cuireann sé le cumais daltaí i dteangacha eile (lena n-áirítear Béarla) seachas aon bhac a chur orthu. Ní gá do thuismitheoirí a bheith buartha faoi chumas na ndaltaí má roghnaíonn siad leanúint ar aghaidh le staidéar ag an tríú leibhéal, mar go bhfuil na scileanna a fhorbraíonn na daltaí ag leibhéal na hiar-bhunscoile inaistrithe go dtí a n-oideachas tríú leibhéal. Ní bhíonn deacracht ag daltaí dul i ngleic le téarmaíocht i mBéarla mar tá tuiscint forbartha acu cheana féin ar na coincheapa a mbeidh de dhíth uathu le staidéar a dhéanamh ar an ábhar.
Will immersion education affect my child's English ability?
The immersion education through the medium of Irish has a positive effect on the students' fluency in English. It enhances students' abilities in other languages (including English) rather than hindering them. Parents do not need to worry about the students' ability if they choose to continue studying at third level, as the skills that students develop at post-primary level are transferable to their third level education. Students do not have difficulty dealing with terminology in English because they have already developed an understanding of the concepts they will need to study the subject.
An bhfuil tumoideachas lán-Ghaeilge oiriúnach do dhaltaí a bhfuil riachtanais speisialta acu?
Freastalaíonn scoileanna lán-Ghaeilge ar dhaltaí le riachtanais speisialta fhisiciúla agus oideachasúla go rialta; daltaí le deacrachtaí radhairc agus éisteachta, neamhoird de chuid speictream an uathachais, disléicse, agus riachtanais speisialta oideachais eile. Cuirtear na tacaíochtaí céanna ar fáil do na daltaí seo is a chuirtear ar fáil i scoileanna meán-Bhéarla. Maítear nach ndéanann an tumoideachas dochar do dhaltaí le riachtanais speisialta oideachais agus dearbhaíonn tuairisc ón gComhairle Náisiúnta um Oideachas Speisialta in 2011 go dtacaíonn an córas le forbairt shóisialta, mhothúchánach agus idirphearsanta.
Is full Irish immersion suitable for students with special needs?
All-Irish schools regularly serve students with special physical and educational needs; students with vision and hearing difficulties, autism spectrum disorders, dyslexia, and other special educational needs. The same supports are provided to these pupils as are provided in English-medium schools. It is claimed that immersion education does not harm students with special educational needs and a report from the National Council for Special Education in 2011 declares that the system supports social, emotional and interpersonal development.
An gá go mbeadh Gaeilge agam le mo pháiste a chur chuig scoil lán-Ghaeilge?
Ní gá. Is féidir spreagadh a thabhairt do do pháiste an Ghaeilge a shealbhú fiú mura bhfuil líofacht sa teanga agat féin. Níl Gaeilge mar theanga bhaile ag formhór na ndaltaí i scoileanna lán-Ghaeilge.
An cúnamh is mó gur féidir a thabhairt do do pháiste agus iad ag freastal ar scoil ná meon dearfach agus spreagúil maidir leis an scoil agus an nGaeilge a léiriú dóibh. Cabhróidh sé le do pháiste má thuigeann siad go bhfuil tú bródúil astu agus go bhfuil suim agat ina bhfuil ar siúl acu.
Do I need to speak Irish to send my child to an all-Irish school?
It is not necessary. It is possible to encourage your child to learn Irish even if you are not fluent in the language yourself. The majority of pupils in Irish-only schools do not have Irish as their home language.
The greatest help that can be given to your child while attending school is to show them a positive and encouraging attitude towards the school and the Irish language. It will help your child if they understand that you are proud of them and that you are interested in what they are doing.
Cén Fáth Oideachas Lán-Ghaeilge?
Is é an múnla oideachais a chuireann muid chun cinn ná múnla an tumoideachais, múnla ina bhfaigheann daltaí a gcuid oideachais – taobh istigh agus taobh amuigh den seomra ranga – trí mheán na Gaeilge. Tá os cionn 53,000 dalta ag freastal ar scoileanna lán-Ghaeilge i láthair na huaire agus is léiriú iad ar bhuntáistí an mhúnla tumoideachais do gach uile dalta, beag beann ar leibhéal cumais, stádas socheacnamaíoch, nó ar chúlra creidimh, cultúrtha nó teanga. Seo roinnt de na buntáistí a aithnítear leis an tumoideachas.
Why All-Irish Education?
The education model we promote is the immersion model, a model in which students receive their education - inside and outside the classroom - through the medium of Irish. There are over 53,000 students attending all-Irish schools at the moment and they are an expression of the advantages of the immersion model for each and every student, regardless of ability level, socio-economic status, or religious, cultural or linguistic background. Here are some of the recognized benefits of immersion education.
An mbeidh mé in ann cúnamh a thabhairt do mo pháiste leis an obair bhaile?
Aithníonn scoileanna lán-Ghaeilge an tábhacht a bhaineann le rannpháirtíocht na dtuismitheoirí i ngach gné d’oideachas a bpáistí, obair bhaile san áireamh. Tuigeann múinteoirí nach bhfuil Gaeilge líofa ag gach tuismitheoir agus tugtar obair bhaile d’fhonn treisiú a dhéanamh ar a bhfuil foghlamtha ag an dalta le linn am scoile.
Beidh do pháiste in ann an obair bhaile a thugtar dóibh a mhíniú duit sa teanga a úsáideann sibh le chéile sa bhaile. Cabhróidh sé go mór le do pháiste má léiríonn tú dóibh go bhfuil fíorspéis agat sa sealbhú teanga agus an dul chun cinn atá ar bun acu.
Will I be able to help my child with homework?
All-Irish schools recognize the importance of parental involvement in all aspects of their children's education, including homework. Teachers understand that not all parents are fluent in Irish and homework is given in order to reinforce what the student has learned during school time.
Your child will be able to explain the homework given to you in the language you use together at home. It will help your child a lot if you show them that you are genuinely interested in their language acquisition and progress.
An mbeidh na deiseanna céanna ar fáil do na daltaí lasmuigh den seomra ranga is a bheadh i scoil meán-Bhéarla?
Beidh, agus breis! Níl aon bhac ar scoileanna lán-Ghaeilge bheith rannpháirteach in imeachtaí náisiúnta, agus cuireann leithéidí comórtas an Eolaí Óg duais ar leith ar fáil dóibh siúd a ghlacann páirt trí mheán na Gaeilge. Tá rogha leathan imeachtaí ar fáil chomh maith atá dírithe ar dhaltaí na scoileanna lán-Ghaeilge amháin; imeachtaí spóirt, díospóireachta, drámaíochta, ceoil agus eile.
Will the students have the same opportunities outside the classroom as they would in an English medium school?
Yes, and more! There is no obstacle for fully Irish schools to participate in national events, and such as the Young Scientist competition offers a special prize for those who participate through the medium of Irish. There is also a wide selection of events available which are only aimed at students of the all-Irish schools; sports, debate, drama, music and other events.
An mbeidh deacrachtaí ag na daltaí tabhairt faoi na hábhair ar fad trí mheán na Gaeilge?
Tacaíonn múnla an tumoideachais le sealbhú teanga an dalta trí rannpháirtíocht agus ionsú iomlán; ní fhágtar ar a gconlán féin iad. Múintear teanga i gcomhthéacs an ábhair agus cabhraíonn an foghlaim chomhtháite leis an dalta dul chun cinn a dhéanamh sa Ghaeilge agus san ábhar araon.
Will the students have difficulties in tackling all the subjects through the medium of Irish?
The immersion model supports the student's language acquisition through full participation and absorption; they are not left to fend for themselves. Language is taught in the context of the subject and the integrated learning helps the student to make progress in both Irish and the subject.
Cad é Coiste na dTuistí?
Anseo i nGaelscoil Bhréifne tá Coiste iontach na dTuistí againn a dhéanann sárobair ar son na scoile. Eagraíonn siad imeachtaí agus cabhraíonn siad le gach gné den scoil i gcónaí.
Is é Cumann na dTuismitheoirí an struchtúr trína bhféadfaidh tuismitheoirí i scoil oibriú le chéile chun an t-oideachas is fearr is féidir a fháil dá bpáistí. Oibríonn Cumann na dTuismitheoirí leis an bPríomhoide, an Fhoireann agus an Bord Bainistíochta chun comhpháirtíocht éifeachtach a chothú idir an baile agus an scoil. Tá comhpháirtíocht idir an baile agus an scoil tábhachtach mar trí chomhpháirtíocht dhearfach agus ghníomhach faigheann an leanbh an ceann is fearr is féidir leis an mbunoideachas. Leagann an tAcht Oideachais 1998 síos ról Chumann na dTuismitheoirí:
Cuirfidh Cumann na dTuismitheoirí leas na scoláirí chun cinn i Scoil i gcomhar leis an mBord, leis an bPríomhoide, leis na Múinteoirí agus leis na Daltaí.
What is the Parents' Committee?
Here in Gaelscoil Bréifne we have a wonderful Parents' Committee who do excellent work for the school. They organise events and always help with all aspects of the school.
The Parents' Association is the structure through which parents in a school can work together to get the best possible education for their children. The Parents' Association works with the Principal, the Staff and the Board of Management to foster an effective partnership between the town and the school. Partnership between home and school is important because through a positive and active partnership the child gets the best possible primary education. The Education Act 1998 sets out the role of the Parents' Association:
The Parents' Association will promote the welfare of the students in the School in collaboration with the Board, the Principal, the Teachers and the Pupils.
