Craft Ed – Learning Skills for Life
Muintéoir Siubhán and our secretary Marina have been attending a course called Craft-Ed. It is about developing Arts and Crafts within Gaelscoil Bhréifne. This has been through the CraftEd: Learning Skills for Life programme, where primary school teachers collaborate with professional makers to ensure young children are able to explore creative practice within the primary school curriculum. The course is run in partnership with the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland and Association of Teacher Education Centres Ireland.
We applied to take part and were fortunate enough to be selected to participate in such a wonderful scheme that will benefit teachers and students alike.
The learning approach of the course explores learning through creative teaching methodologies, such as the visual arts alongside social, environmental and scientific education. This way of learning supports the underpinning of Literacy and Numeracy skills within the child’s education. The course aims to help children gain confidence in themselves and their ability to shape their environment in a positive manner.
We have been partnered up with Elena to assist us with our sessions, and will enjoy creating different pieces of art based on the curriculum topic the class will be focusing upon, using a variety of resources. The children will become hands on throughout the series of lessons, being able to express themselves and their ideas through the medium of art.
